Tommy and Lucy Topper, with Terry Gill at 27 Wood End
Tom Topper lived in Wood End. He took over the fruit collecting business for Ramsbottom from his father-in-law in the late thirties. He was a Parish Councillor and both he and his wife Lucy were active members of the Meeting House. Lucy was a Sunday school teacher, and later Tom became caretaker of the chapel. He was an extremely kind man, always anxious to help wherever he could, and was popular with the village people. During the Christmas period he helped to deliver the post with many a cheery word of greeting. (extract from Ernest S Ward Bluntisham A Village Remembered) Mr Topper used to go round the village with his lorry to collect up the fruit and then take it to the station to put on the train . I also went on a train to Hunstanton from the station think it was a Sunday school outing. Lots of things used to happen in Bluntisham years ago. (Audrey Hinson )
Stephen-Lister (Norman Gill)
Stevey lived at Bunyan Lodge, Wood End. He was a small active man and had been a chimney sweep and lamplighter. He was a keen angler & collector for the Cricket Club and also an officer of the local branch of the British Legion. (Extract taken from Ernest S Ward Bluntisham A village remembered)
