Tom Youd

Tom first came to the village in 1939 as an evacuee from North London, in 1941 after the end of the Battle of Britain he went back home to North London. He stayed with the James family in Earith and it is clear from his recollections that he loved his time in Earith.

So much was his love for this area, that he returned as an adult, and moved into the old Station House in the mid 1980s. He was an art teacher and taught at the St Ivo school and I know that some people still living in the area remember him as their art teacher.

Sadly, Tom passed away in October 2019 and I would like to say that it was a real privilege to meet him and spend some time in his company discussing the history of the village. His contribution to this project was huge, lots of the photos and documents that he shared feature on the website and we still have more to add that he gave us.

He was a lovely man, a bright soul and although I only met him a handful of times I will never forget him.
Thank you Tom.

Phillipa
